Fragno Truffle Museum

A new exhibition enriches the museum network of the Food Museums of Parma: the Fragno Hooked Truffle Museum, based in Calestano.
It is housed in the basement of the Municipality of Calestano, where the ancient prisons once stood. The exhibition aims to enhance the historic walls of the building and its environment, but at the same time it wants to be "unconventional", bringing multimedia and interactive elements capable of communicating the various contents of the Museum to visitors.

The Truffle is something mysterious that must be sought. This is the logic of the Museum, a sort of treasure hunt where the visitor enters small shady underground spaces (to remember the truffle), with the aim of "hunting" for certain information and being able to reach a prize: an exclusive content that is added to the museum.

The small courtyard that gives access to the Museum presents panels that tell the story of the Calestano area, rich in uncontaminated environments and places of great beauty, such as the "Devil's Leaps" chain which can be traversed through the "Via degli Scalpellini", the castle of Ravarano, Monte Sporno or Montagnana, dotted with small inhabited centers that retain their original structure because the Museum also wants to present the other attractions of the area.

It moves on to botany, where we discover what a truffle is and how it is born.
The focus is also on truffle harvesting, made possible thanks to the truffle hunters and their dogs and an immersive space will also be dedicated to the woods.
In fact, the truffle does not grow in all types of woods and the types of those that have  truffle are described.

The gastronomy room offers, on an interactive table, the menu of a royal lunch, including famous people, vintage menus and recipes, unusual combinations, curiosities and videos. 
The last room shows this symbol of excellence, the methods of conservation, the historic families dedicated to the search, the mysteries that it has been able to hide for centuries, its presence in art and poetry, the rites and traditions premises and some unexpected uses.
The visit requires a stop at the restaurant, where the tasting is intended to be unforgettable.
