Bertolucci Literary park

Established on July 17, 2021, the Bertolucci Literary Park is the first and, to date, only Literary Park in Emilia-Romagna. Dedicated to Attilio, Bernardo, and Giuseppe Bertolucci, this park celebrates the profound bond between the family of artists and the landscape of the Parma Apennines, which inspired their verses, images, and narratives.

The park is part of the national network of Literary Parks, born from an idea by writer Stanislao Nievo to preserve the places that have inspired great works of Italian literature, transforming them into living spaces of culture, education, and sustainable development.

The poet's home
Casarola is the original home of the Bertolucci family. It was here that the poet Attilio Bertolucci's father was born, and it was here that Attilio first arrived in the 1920s, walking along a mule track through the woods to reach what, to his child's eyes, seemed an enchanted place, "detached not only from the plain but from the world."

Over the years, the poet's home has transformed into a symbolic and vibrant place, a crossroads of culture, memory, and inspiration, where art has taken shape in poetry, film, and theater, through the talent and sensitivity of Attilio, Bernardo, and Giuseppe Bertolucci. As Giuseppe Bertolucci explained, the desire to create was for them a way "to rediscover a subjectivity, a first person," giving voice to an inner legacy born right here in Casarola.

Every room, every object, every glimpse of the house speaks of the profound symbiosis between nature and intellectual creativity. An energy cultivated not only by Attilio Bertolucci, his wife Ninetta Giovanardi, and his sons Bernardo and Giuseppe, but also by the friends and illustrious guests who have frequented it over the years, making it a laboratory of ideas and visions.

The Stone Pages
In Casarola, there is the installation "Pages of Stone": a story in the form of a walk that winds through the streets of the Court, starting from the ancient home of the Bertolucci family.

The route is divided into nineteen stages, nineteen "pages" affixed to the walls of nineteen houses in the village, each featuring selected excerpts from the poet's work.

Pages of Stone is much more than an artistic installation: it is an invitation to connect with poetry, to experience it in everyday life, to make it your own. In this intertwining of verse and landscape, words and architecture, memory and stone, Attilio Bertolucci's poetics merges with the shared sentiments of residents and visitors, in a profound and enduring symbiosis.

The Trails
Culture Trail - A trail dedicated to Attilio Bertolucci, connecting Casarola to Riana through poetry, history, and local architecture. The route passes by the Poet's House, an ancient mill, and the evocative "Bosco delle Fate," a centuries-old chestnut grove immersed in silence.
This trail reveals historical and architectural treasures, immersing visitors in an atmosphere of timeless tradition and culture.

Nature Trail - The Nature Trail winds through rural and mountain landscapes, starting from Casarola, nestled among centuries-old chestnut groves and historic clearings. The trail, steeped in tradition and a resurgent nature, offers a harmonious blend of biodiversity, local culture, and breathtaking scenery.

Agricultural Trail - A trail through the agricultural, forestry, and pastoral traditions of the Apennines. You'll encounter chestnut dryers, dry stone walls, equipped areas with rest stops, and evidence of mountain agriculture, such as the reconstructed charcoal kiln.
